# My cat is afraid of locking sounds - what can I do?

The default locking sound of OnlyCat is very similar to the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap, so for most cats it feels quite familiar. However, some cats can be sensitive to noises and may need a little extra support when getting used to it.

**Try Training Mode**
Training mode can help your cat get used to the flap. Its locking behaviour depends on how the policy is configured:
* If you enable training mode on an existing policy, the lock stays permanently unlocked.
* When creating a training policy, you can add a **prey detection rule**. This may be less reliable for prey protection; the flap may not lock in time.

**Helping Your Cat Adjust**
* With the lock kept unlocked, your cat can explore and pass through without routine locking sounds.
* Use favourite treats, toys, or gentle encouragement to create a positive association.
* Once your cat is comfortable, you can gradually reintroduce locking.

**Create a new training policy**
1. Open the OnlyCat app.
2. Select the **Devices** tab, then select your device.
3. Click **Add door policy** and select the **Training Mode** policy.
4. Configure the policy for your cat. If you add a prey detection rule, remember that prey protection may be less reliable and the flap may not lock in time.

**Enable training mode on an existing policy**
1. Open the OnlyCat app.
2. Select the **Devices** tab, then select your device.
3. Select your training policy.
4. Toggle the **Training Mode** option on below the rules.

This keeps the lock permanently unlocked. Do not use this setting when you need the policy to keep an indoor-only cat in or prevent unwanted access.

The active policy is displayed with a blue background. Check whether you created a training policy with a prey detection rule or enabled training mode on an existing policy; do not assume both configurations will lock on prey.
